Filming has begun on a new eight-episode drama “Kalimba” with Fyodor Bondarchuk and Alena Mikhailova in the lead roles. The project is being produced by the Okko online cinema and the NORM PRODUCTION film company, and Nurbek Egen (The Negotiator, Fandorin. Azazel, The Praying Mantis, Sherlock in Russia, Major) took the director’s chair. In addition to Mikhailova and Bondarchuk, Sergey Garmash, Pyotr Skvortsov, Elizaveta Shakira, Sergey Goroshko, Konstantin Plotnikov, Yulia Volkova and others will also appear in the series – a truly stellar cast.
The acting profession is all about the psychology of human feelings, and in the Kalimba series they are twisted to the limit: we see participants in a strange experiment, people in a critical situation, in a borderline state. My hero, who explores these states, is another ambiguous character, whose motivation is sometimes incomprehensible even to himself. It will be incredibly interesting to play this inner quest! says Bondarchuk.
The plot of the series revolves around the ambitious professor of psychiatry Viktor Meshchersky (Bondarchuk), who conducts a dangerous psychological experiment, about which the on-screen investigation will tell the viewer. Mikhailova will play one of his patients and victims of this experiment.
A person is given trials that are within his power. It seems to me that this is not a random project. It tells how important it is to get the dark part out of yourself and not suppress emotions, otherwise they will begin to destroy you – they must be worked out if you want to move on and be happy. You need to accept all your parts and not run away from pain, – the actress shares. – I had a big pause in my work, and when I opened this script, I realized from the second line that I was “here”. I don’t know how, but I knew it right away. It’s therapy for me, as it is for my character.
A picture at the intersection of a psychological thriller, drama and detective story is already being actively filmed in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, and the filming process will last until the end of this summer. In Okko, the Kalimba series will be shown in 2024.
