Omar and Roger will become your new favorite duo. We are not talking about comedians or stand-ups, but about the two main characters of Omar La Freyce, the first feature Elias Belkedard, who co-wrote Romain Gavra’s Athena and Antoine de Barre’s Days of Glory.
Reda chickens are lobsters. Benoit Magimel is Roger. Together, they portray great gangsters in freefall who are forced to relocate to Algeria after years of successful banditry. An old-fashioned mobster and on borrowed time, Omar now lives by small tricks and takes it easy with Roger.
But the sirens of agitation continue to beckon him, and Omar finds it hard not to live in debauchery and violence. Roger, on the other hand, seems to be adjusting a bit more to this “retired” life and is trying his best to take care of his friend. But trouble continues to follow two friends whose reputations are second to none.
Having met at the Cannes Film Festival, where Omar La Frazee hosted a midnight screening in a sacred atmosphere, Reda Cats and Benoit Magimel told us how they worked together and formed this friendship, but also how they developed their characters. This funny, exciting and violent gangster film gives French cinema a wonderful boost.
