During a panel discussion of the Drama Actor Roundtable series hosted by The Hollywood Reporter, Pedro Pascal answered one of the most debated questions on the Internet: his physical presence in the tapings of the Disney+ series The Mandalorian.
There, the actor confirmed that his participation in the Disney+ series is, for the most part, limited to voice acting. Meanwhile, Brendan Wayne plays Din Djarin on set and Lateef Crowder performs the stunts using the armor. He also explained the reasons for his absence from physical sets.
There was a fair amount of experimentation, having been in the armor for a long time, and quite frankly, my body just wasn’t up to the task over the course of four months. But I was there. I’ve been there in a significant amount, an elastic amount. But now we’ve found a solution, which is amazing, and it’s given me the opportunity to do other things.
Pedro Pascal, at the round table of the dramatic actor
Besides admitting that most of the time it’s just the character’s voice, Pascal praised Wayne’s performance in The Mandalorian, saying he considers it “excellent”. She said there were never times she watched it and felt like she was going to change something the character did or how she interacted with the environment in that particular scene.
Of course, Wayne doesn’t play the character 100% of the time, and Pascal also appeared onscreen as Din Djarin in key scenes where his helmet needed to be removed for emotional or narrative reasons.
What’s the upside for Pedro Pascal and The Mandalorian?
Due to filming The Last of Us took place simultaneously with the third season of The MandalorianDin Djarin does not take off his helmet at any point in the series, another indication that Pascal was busy with other projects, as he said during the interview.
His participation in the series allows him to participate in another large production, linked to the prestigious brand Star Wars, while working on other projects. On the other hand, the series links with the name of Pedro Pascal to gain more prestige, which creates a win-win situation.
