Famed director Quentin Tarantino is finally confirming his next film – and presumably his last.
In an interview with Deadline, Tarantino revealed that the film The film critic – something like The film criticin free translation, will go into “pre-pre-production” in June, and is looking for an actor around 35 years old to play the lead.
The film critic is based on a reporter from a pornographic magazine that Tarantino read when he worked as a vending machine farmer. The film will be set in Southern California in 1977 and will have a character trajectory similar to that of Travis Bickle, played by Robert De Niro, in Taxi driverby Martin Scorsese.
Everything else was too obscene to read, but there was this porn magazine that had a really cool movie page. He wrote about popular films and was the second-rate critic. I think he was a very good critic. He was extremely cynical. The reviews of him were a mix of early Howard Stern and what Travis Bickle might be if he were a film critic. As for the cast, Quentin Tarantino noted that he’s looking for an American male star in his mid-30s, noting that he’s looking for a new partnership and not a longtime collaborator.
