“Lira has closed its doors,” Deltan says of the impeachment

After having his mandate as deputy revoked by the Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE), the former prosecutor Deltan Dallagnol (Podemos-PR) expressed his dissatisfaction with the refusal of the mayor, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), to comply with his contact attempts to discuss the process, which has yet to be reviewed by the board. On the denials, Deltan was emphatic in stating that Lira “has closed the doors”. The statements were made in an interview with The globe this Friday the 26th.

“I looked for the Speaker of the House. I sent him a message, my adviser tried to set up a meeting, but he closed the doors, not responding to messages and our requests. I also tried to talk to his head of toilet sometimes,” he said.

However, the lawmaker said he was in contact with other lawmakers, including members of the House board of directors, seeking to reverse the impeachment.

“In the first press conference we held after the impeachment there were more than 50 deputies from 11 different parties representing more than 10 million votes. All of them expressed their solidarity and their indignation at the curtailment of popular sovereignty expressed by the vote,” he said.

“We have held discussions with several members of the Board of Directors to present our case. After all, they are the ones who will decide. It was a respectful presentation of the case and an institutional one,” he added.

Furthermore, he recalled that he had discussed the matter with the president of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Rosa Weber.

“It was a meeting that had been scheduled for several weeks, even before my appeal to the TSE was scheduled, and which had as its object a presentation and defense of the anti-corruption guidelines, of care for people. Given the decision of the TSE, in passing, I mentioned and explained what had happened in this case (the impeachment). Now, that wasn’t the subject of the meeting. She just listened. I just presented perspectives on the original subject of the meeting and quickly presented perspectives on this TSE decision,” she said.
