James Cameron has started the script for a new ‘Terminator’ movie, but AIs prevent him from continuing

The creator of the ‘Terminator’ saga began writing a new script three months ago

‘Avatar 2: The Sense of Water’ will be available on Disney+ very soon and, although James Cameron has stated that he is very focused on the sequels and that ‘Avatar 3’ is already filmed, the filmmaker has also been hinting at what other topics he can deal with between the films in the world of Pandora. Cameron mentioned in December that he’s interested in shooting the story of the Hiroshima bombing before filming ‘Avatar 4’, and this week he’s given a surprising trailer for another project we didn’t expect. And no, it’s not ‘Piranha 3’.

A few days ago, James Cameron appeared as a guest speaker at the Dell Technologies World Conference 2023. During his panel, he revealed to the audience that he had started writing a script for a new ‘Terminator’ movie three months ago, according to a tweet from Roderick Mercado, a Microsoft salesperson. Mercado’s tweet reads, “James Cameron just told the #DellTechWorld crowd that he started writing a new Terminator movie 3 months ago, but wants to see how #AI evolves before continuing”.

That the creator of Skynet cares about Artificial Intelligence is always a cause for alarmbut also the moment chosen is interesting considering that a couple of weeks ago the Hollywood writers’ strike began and there is a real fear in the film community that studios could resort to using AI to produce ideas and scripts for movies and TV series instead of hiring writers.

Several movies and series like ‘Mrs. Davis’, which is precisely about Artificial Intelligence, is already using a method for the AI to describe the ideas of the story while the writers take advantage of and polish what is generated.

But the news is even more surprising considering Arnold Schwarzenegger’s recent statements, stating that “I’m done with the ‘Terminator’ franchise” and that “I got the message loud and clear that the world wants to turn the page on a different topic when it comes to ‘Terminator’“, leaving the saga for dead, and James Cameron himself, who came to qualify the latest installment ‘Terminator: ‘Dark Fate’ as a ‘Terminator’ “for grandparents”.
