The wave of live-action remakes still has a long way to go in the studio.
The day most awaited by fans of The Little Mermaid has finally arrived. Starting today, May 25, theaters across the country will begin showing Disney’s newest live-action remake. Starring Halle Bailey, the film promises to offer a retelling of the original story, with the expansion of the universe presented in 1989.
As we recalled a few days ago, the studio’s live-action remakes have become an essential part of the company’s schedule. After introducing new versions of animation classics such as The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Mulan and Aladdin, there is still a long list of stories to be told both with the help of special effects technology and through performances by “flesh and blood” “actors.
Disney’s next project is, and at the same time, not a live-action remake like the others. This is a re-imagining of the Haunted Mansion. The feature film is expected to resume the initial plot of the 2004 film, starring Eddie Murphy, but it is not based on a fairy tale. Now, under the vision of Justin Simien, director of Cara Gente Branca, the public will be invited to rediscover the secrets of the mysterious place.
For next year there are two more productions that strictly follow the model established here: Snow White and Mufasa: The Lion King. While the former will feature a reimagining of one of Disney’s most iconic princesses, played by Rachel Zegler (Amor, Sublime Amor), the latter is on a mission to present the prequel to the 2019 film, under the direction of Academy Award winner Barry Jenkins. .
No official date, but part of the wave of announcements from the studio, there’s a Lilo & Stitch remake in production. With tapings of the alien storyline underway right now, Marcel the Shell With Shoes On’s Dean Fleischer Camp will headline the lengthy schedule to be released straight to Disney+.
There are also new releases for Robin Hood, Atlantis: The Lost Kingdom, Cruella 2, Moana, Bambi, The Sword in the Law and Hercules announced by the studio.
