The Italian Embassy in Sudan moves to Ethiopia

The change occurred due to the conflicts in the country

The Italian embassy in Sudan moved this Sunday (28) to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, due to conflicts in the country.

Michele Tommasi, Italian ambassador in Sudan, together with some collaborators and two units of the Carabineros, arrived today in the Ethiopian capital.

According to the Farnesina, the national embassy in Khartoum “will be temporarily reconstituted in our diplomatic representation in Ethiopia”.

“Ambassador Tommasi and our team will continue to ensure that the office is fully operational in Addis Ababa, to better ensure Italy’s contribution to Sudan’s peacemaking efforts,” Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani explained.

Since April, intense fighting in Sudan has forced at least 700,000 people to flee their homes, as well as killing hundreds.

The conflict erupted in the nation in April and involves generals Abdel Fatah al-Burhan, head of the Armed Forces, and Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, leader of the paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and better known as Hemedti. .
