Last night TF1 aired Black Widow from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A chance to quiz you on its lead actress Scarlett Johansson, but before that let’s focus a little on the film, with a few secrets of the making.
did you know
Black Widow is the 24th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which began in 2008 with Iron Man and the first of Phase IV (begun on the small screen with WandaVision). It will be followed by Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternal, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange in the Madness Multiverse and Thor: Love and Thunder.
Black Widow is Scarlett Johansson’s eighth portrayal of Natasha Romanoff (not counting her cameo in Captain Marvel’s post-credits scene) following Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Captain America, The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Capt. America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
Australian Kate Shortland was chosen to direct the film after a long selection process. She beat out seventy candidates interviewed by the producers, namely Ama Asante (Belle), Maggie Betts (Novitiate), Kimberly Pearce (Boys Don’t Cry) and Melanie Laurent, who were among the finalists.
If the face of the young actress who plays Natasha Romanoff is probably vaguely familiar, that’s because she’s not a complete stranger. It’s really Ever Anderson, the daughter of actress Milla Jovovich and director Paul W.S. Anderson’s daughter.
Black Widow had the best post-pandemic start for a film, opening with $80 million at the US box office (which is more than Fast & Furious 9 and its $70 million).
Now it’s time to play with seven of Scarlett Johansson’s most recognizable films from her career.
