The idea of the CPI is to retrace the paths taken by the deputy of Goiás looking for new investigation fronts on the betting scheme revealed by the prosecutors through two phases of the Operation Maximum Penalty.
In an interview with Stadium, Cesconetto said the promoters are concentrated in detailing money laundering through the manipulation of the games to obtain wagers and in the search for other intermediaries and financiers of the scheme.
The CPI was proposed by the deputy Felipe Carreras (PSB-PE), rapporteur of the commission. He filed the request a few days after the start of the first phase of the operation. The CPI has 120 days to investigate the matter, which can be increased by another 60 days. According to the legislation, a CPI has the same investigative powers as the judicial authorities. In practice, he can interrogate witnesses, listen to suspects, arrest – only in the event of flagrante delicto -, request information and documents, summon ministers of state and violate fiscal, banking and data secrecy.
The hearings will always take place on Tuesdays, starting at 2.30 pm, and, if necessary, also on Thursdays, starting at 9.30 am.
