President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said on Tuesday that Brazil will seek economic, political, cultural and social integration with Latin American countries and that the expansion of the affirmation of a Latin American identity internationally is possible with a strong region.
“Brazil will seek the economic, political, social and cultural integration of the peoples of Latin America, aiming at the formation of a community of Latin American nations,” Lula said at the opening of a meeting with the leaders of the South American countries, at the Itamaraty Palace .
Lula also said that the process of integration between South American countries has stalled in recent years, criticizing the foreign policy of his predecessor, former president Jair Bolsonaro. He says that the current context for reintegration is even more difficult than in the past.
“If today we take the first steps to resume dialogue as a region, the context we have to face is more challenging than in the past”, said the president.
