She had recently also been on the high school cheerleading team and was named runner-up in the Miss Washington Teen USA pageant. However, on May 2, Kailia asked her mother for a deodorant she would need for school the next day and she drove off shortly after her in one of the family cars. It was the last time she saw her daughter, Gatterman said:
She left me a note and then another for her best friend. The note said that she loved me and he was sorry and that her older brother is her best friend forever.
Apparently Kailia Posey left notes for her mother and best friend, a heartbreaking revelation of what she planned to do, despite telling her mother about her school requirements the next day. Marcy Posey Gatterman asked parents to make an effort to find out what’s going on in their children’s lives and she sent a message to teenagers who may also be suffering in silence:
Parents of teenagers, check phones. And if you have any problems, talk to your parents about it. They don’t judge you. They will give you the help you need, but we need to know what you need to get the help you need.
Kailia Posey’s mother and the rest of her family are experiencing grief no one should have to face and, along with this latest update on the young woman’s last days and suicide notes, they have taken steps to help others in need. . The family of the former beauty pageant contestant set up a fund in her name with the Whatcom community foundation , a charity that aims to help students in crisis by providing them with resources. Meanwhile, Kailia’s friends have started a mental health fund for teenagers called Kailia’s world with funds from the sale of sweatshirts to provide counselors for teenagers in need.
