Story: Globe and Disney announce a co-production partnership

Globo announced Wednesday (31) a partnership “in the millions” with none other than Disney, that’s right: the home of Mickey Mouse and ‘Plim Plim’ together. The unprecedented agreement between the two audiovisual industry giants aims to collaborate in the production of Brazilian films, with one release per year and simultaneous premiere on Globoplay and Disney+ or Star+.

Brazilian content is the central element of Globoplay’s offer. This new partnership with Disney increases the reach of this content by allowing, on the one hand, the films included in the agreement to reach other territories covered by Disney+ and Star+; and, secondly, that the exhibition showcase in cinemas is strengthened by the marketing and distribution efforts of the two partners. The consumer and the creators win.

Erick Brêtas, director of digital products and paid channels at Globo.

We are very excited about this new partnership with Globo and to offer fans an exciting new entertainment journey. Local content is one of the pillars of our strategy and this agreement will bring even more relevant content to our audience, showing the world the quality of Brazilian productions.

Renato D’Angelo, General Manager of The Walt Disney Company Brazil.

Brazil’s favorite streams

According to a Comscore survey based on data collected between February 2022 and February 2023, Globoplay is in second place in the ranking of favorite video streams by Brazilians.

With 18.2 million monthly users, the platform is second only to Netflix, which follows by a good margin from the rival – which may change, of course, after the implementation of its new password sharing policy. Amazon’s Prime Video closed the podium in third place, with 14.65 million subscribers.

In the music streaming sector, Spotify holds the record, with 38.6 million users.
