Crime Tropes on France 2: What do the episode titles mean?

The equally popular series Criminal Tropics, by Sonia Rolland and Béatrice de la Boulay, continues this Friday, June 2, at 9:10 p.m. on France 2, with a new unreleased episode of Season 4.

Titled “The Cursed Fig,” this new investigation begins on the “dark tourism” circuit (crime scene tourism) with the discovery of the lifeless body of a man murdered according to a serial killer mod. Reaper, who disappeared without ever being identified after a rampage in Martinique some twenty years ago.

Only, a recent post by the victim on his blog claims that he has just discovered the identity of the Reaper, who seems to have returned and awakened to this fashionable sick tourism. The beginning of an investigation that will awaken old memories of Commissioner Etcheverry (Stefan Vojtowicz), Aurelien (Julien Beramis) and Crivelli (who has to juggle the arrival of a teenager in his life).

But by the way, why is this episode of Criminal Tropics called “The Cursed Fig Tree”? And how about other episodes of the series called “Ravine Touza”, “Le Lamentin”, “La baie des Anglais”, “Les Anses d’Arlet” or even “Canal Cocotte”?

Martinique at the heart of the series… to the episode titles

In fact, each episode of the France 2 detective series is about a city, district or emblematic place on the island of Martinique, where the action takes place and where the adventures of Melissa Saint-Rose and Gael Crivelli take place.

“Martinique is actually one of the characters. Each episode is titled after a place or town on the island. We really represent Martinique. It’s not just the setting.”Beatrice de la Boulaye told us in an interview last year.

“This is a series that breaks all the preconceptions, all the clichés. From the beginning, we were afraid that it would not transfer to the Caribbean community, because we talk about their island, we invite ourselves into their homes, but in the end we are the first to support us.”His compatriot Sonia Rolland continued on the importance of representing the island of Martinique in Criminal Tropics.

“In Season 4, we have a lot less of a heavenly setting, we’re going more on land. We’ve been invited to this kind of postcard that is Martinique, and we’ll discover that island and its secrets over the course of the seasons.”.

For the most impatient, Season 4 of Criminal Tropics is now available on france.tv.
