In just under two years, the player scored 32 goals and was three times Paris Saint-Germain champion
Another farewell to Paris Saint-Germain. This Saturday afternoon (3), the club announced the departure of Lionel Messi at the end of this season, joining defender Sergio Ramos. Without renewing his contract, which expires at the end of June, the player leaves PSG after just under two years and is free on the market to sign with another club.
With 74 games played, the Argentinian playmaker has scored 32 goals, 35 assists and won the second French League championship and the French Super Cup, as well as the world’s best player award, in 2021.
The announcement was made through social media, in a farewell video. Messi’s departure was expected, with coach Christophe Galtier, at a press conference, declaring he has the privilege of coaching the ‘greatest player in the history of football’ and confirmed the last match, against Clermont.
– Thanks to the club, the city of Paris and its inhabitants for these two years. I wish them the best for the future – said the Argentine.
– I would like to thank Leo Messi for his two seasons in Paris. Seeing a winner of seven Ballon d’Ors at the Parc des Princes, winning two French championships in a row and inspiring our young players has been a pleasure. His contribution to Paris Saint-Germain and Ligue 1 cannot be underestimated and we wish Leo and his family all the best for the future.”
