Jeander Vinícius, one of the suspects in Jeff Machado’s death, said the actor was drugged and strangled with a telephone wire by former Globo employee Bruno Rodrigues. The information was disclosed by delegate Ellen Souto, in a press conference – broadcast on Band’s “Brasil Urgente” program. Jeander was arrested on Friday (2/6) on suspicion of participating in the crime, while Bruno is on the run.
According to the delegate, the crime was planned two months in advance. “The premeditation began on November 30, 2022, when Bruno decided to rent the kitchenette where Jefferson’s body would be hidden,” he told the press. “Bruno wanted, at all times, not to prove that he was the one renting the kitchenette, posing as the owner as if Jefferson was the one renting it,” he continued.
Ellen Souto said that according to Jeander, the victim was convinced that she would start acting in a soap opera after paying BRL 20,000 to Bruno for the role. “She believed she would start appearing on the 7 p.m. soap opera on January 26, 2023,” she explained. According to the autopsy report, which was accessed by the O Globo newspaper, Jeff had had sexual relations shortly before he was killed, possibly with Jeander, who works as a shop boy.
The crime took place in the Record TV actor’s room. Contrary to the information released so far and Bruno’s confession, the delegate said that the act was not filmed. “Bruno doped Jefferson by putting a substance in a juice and the three went to Jefferson’s room. There was no footage of the sex act,” he said. “As soon as Jefferson entered his room, because he was drugged, he was strangled with a telephone wire by Bruno”, he continued.
According to the evidence, the crime took place in the afternoon. “We can tell the crime occurred three days before Jeff believed the taping of a 7 p.m. soap opera would begin on Jan. 26,” the executive said. “The fact took place between 15:30 and 18:00, because, immediately afterwards, Bruno initiates a series of telephone calls, of a pecuniary nature, which lead us to believe, and proven today by Jeander’s statement, that the crime was happened that afternoon”, detailed.
He adds that the body was then placed in the trunk used to hide the corpse. “This trunk was transported in the victim’s own vehicle, a vehicle driven by Jeander and carrying Bruno. They opted for a longer, more isolated route, with the aim of not running the risk of being stopped by the police, which actually happened,” described Souto. “They were approached from a police checkpoint, and, as already reported, they passed this block. Jeander said that there was even a chase of the vehicle and he managed to escape,” he continued.
According to Ellen Souto, the body was taken to the kitchenette Bruno rented and deposited in the backyard, the floor of which was concreted by a bricklayer hired by Bruno. The motivation for the crime was allegedly financial “due to the amount of BRL 20,000 paid by Jeff for the alleged vacancy on the soap opera”. Bruno was falsely posing as an assistant director at Globo and had also posed as an assistant director at Record, and feared he would be publicly demoralized by Jeff when the actor discovered there had never been a role for him.
The investigation also showed that, after the crime, Rodrigues attempted to sell the victim’s vehicle and home at below-market values. The house, which was worth between R$500 and R$600,000, would be sold for R$250,000 if he got it. The car, however, could not be sold because Bruno did not have the vehicle purchase and sale document.
In his confession, Jeander Vinícius also confirmed that the third suspect, Marcelo, never existed. Marcelo was invented by Bruno as an alibi in a story involving the recording of an adult video. Jeander revealed that he was paid to confirm Bruno’s narrative that Marcelo existed, he killed the actor and forced the duo to do all the deeds. According to the arrested suspect, the amount he would have received in exchange for the lie would be R $ 500.
