The plane disappears after a 5-year absence, and its passengers haven’t aged a bit. This was the starting point for Manifest, an intriguing series that made us think of Lost in many ways. It ended a few days ago at the end of Season 4, which didn’t really answer all the questions. So what should we understand?
Why did the plane disappear?
In the episodes, we learned that the passengers of Flight 828 were chosen to carry out the mission. If we bet on a supernatural cause – à la Lost – to understand why and how, the creator of Manifest linked his series to religion. In Interview given In 2022, he made these interesting revelations:
“Now we find that the passengers are prophets. We explained it to him from the beginning. The choices they make to redeem themselves, follow callings, and do good deeds affect not only their ability to live or die, but the fate of all humanity. We are referring to the fact that from time to time, throughout human history, God has delegated a representative or a group of representatives to determine whether or not humanity is viable: does this population that I have created deserve to continue, or have they ruined it? “
What do different prophets over time have in common? Sapphire. We found it on the boat of Al Zuras, Noah’s Ark… According to the series, they were also chosen by divine consciousness.
Why are some dead?
Through their research, the survivors realize that not only their lives are at stake, but the fate of humanity. In order to save their canoe and the rest of the planet, they will have to do good deeds. But not only. Olive discovers in the final episode that their hearts are not judged by the good or evil they have done, but by their ability to forgive. This is how Ben escapes death by saving Angelina from death.
The young woman – and ten other passengers – will not escape the final judgment for this reason. Although the passengers generally passed the test, they did not regret it. Unlike Saanvi, who killed the Major but spent the last five years trying to find a solution to the date of his death.
Why was Kal chosen by divine consciousness?
The show didn’t really answer that question, but we can dig into a theory or two. It is most likely that the young boy was in direct contact with the white light of the plane. He looked her straight in the eyes and perhaps deemed her worthy of carrying out a divine mission.
On the other hand, we don’t know the reason why Angelina could also access Sapphire’s powers, but every story has to have an antagonist…
