Can a feature film use so much ink of a single color that it creates a color shortage in the world? The movie “Barbie” proved that it does – and the color in question is extremely predictable.
With all the sets highlighted in pink, the film’s director Greta Gerwig and production designer Sarah Greenwood said the film’s production created a temporary shortage of pink paint globally.
“Holding the ‘baby’ was key,” Gerwig said in an interview. “I wanted the pinks to be very bright and everything to be almost over the top.” Greenwood pointed out that creating pink backdrops for “Barbie” caused an international rush for Rosco’s fluorescent shade of paint. “The world has run out of pink,” laughed the designer.
Although the investments have caused this impact – which may also seem like a marketing strategy – Greta says the details were made to show what “made me love Barbie as a child”.
“Barbie” will hit Brazilian cinemas on July 20.
