Super Mario Bros becomes the 2nd highest grossing animated film in history

yahoo ! Super Mario Bros, the film recently crossed the $1.3 billion mark at the international box office, making it the second highest-grossing animated film in history. A feature film inspired by the Nintendo game thus takes away from the Snow Queen and her $1.28 billion.

Still, Elsa reigns supreme as Frozen 2, released in 2019, continues to lead the way with $1.45 billion. Hoping to replace the Sisters of the Arendelle Kingdom, the New York plumber brothers must raise at least $150 million. But nothing is impossible for Mario.

Consider that Disney’s remake of The Lion King brought in $1.65 billion in 2019. If Jon Favreau’s feature film is entirely computer-generated, the studio relegated the feature film to the live-action category and therefore has no place on the list of best animated films.

However, there is debate as to whether it should be considered an official animated film. In this case Super Mario Bros., the movie would only be the third.

The biggest illumination in front of “Minions”.

Illumination Studios’ biggest hit since The Minions, the movie about the little mustached plumber is the first feature of 2023 to cross the $1 billion mark at the box office.

A collaboration between Universal, Illumination and Nintendo, the Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic film has grossed $566 million in North America and $733.9 million internationally.

In his quest, he can rely on the Mushroom Toad, a resident of the Mushroom Kingdom, and the wise advice, in terms of fighting techniques, of Princess Peach, the decisive warrior at the head of the kingdom. This is how Mario manages to mobilize his forces to complete the mission.

Super Mario Bros. got off to the best start of the year with $146 million in its first weekend in US theaters. But another animated film is following in its footsteps after Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse hit our theaters last May 31st and Friday June 2nd in the US, achieving the second best start of the year at $120.5 million.

Animation is so far the big box office champion of 2023.
