In his last official day as a federal deputy, Deltan Dallagnol (Podemos-PR) spent most of the time isolated, contemplative and welcomed by supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL). Only the president of Podemos, Renata Abreu, was in the office of the former coordinator of Lava Jato, located on the 7th floor of Annex 4, when Deltan received the news of the impeachment confirmation by the board of the Chamber .
On Tuesday 6th, around 7 pm, Deltan went down to the plenary session of the Chamber. In the stands, Alfredo Gaspar (União Brasil-AL) defended his accused colleague. There, Deltan was embraced by Adriana Ventura (SP) and Marcel van Hattem (RS), both Novo MPs.
The former Lava Jato prosecutor was unanimously impeached by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), on May 16. According to the Court, Deltan anticipated the exit of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office (MPF) to avoid possible administrative disciplinary proceedings (PAD) and thus circumvent the Clean Record Act. That day, Van Hattem and four Bolsonarist deputies visited Deltan in his office to show solidarity. “I’ve never seen Deltan like this,” he said at the time.
This Tuesday, the impeached MP spent a good part of his time observing the sympathy speeches of the few colleagues present. The report identified that there were nine Bolsonarist deputies along with Deltan. His consultancy made lives by taping the lines of colleagues such as Deltan himself. The one that got the most views was during the interview given to the press in front of his office, around 6:30 pm – 13,000 people attended. The emojis most used by the public were crying and heart.
The last live broadcast was the “final act” of the plenary session. Already with the environment empty, he posed for photos, made one last record with four of his assistants and asked the clerk if he had to do a broadcast. “I think it would be good to talk to people,” said the MP, who soon went to register. The report accompanied the speech for a few minutes. The peak was 4,900 concurrent viewers. He repeated part of the statements from earlier.
After the live, Deltan still spoke with the Stadium. He said he felt “outraged”. “The corrupt system (is) reoccupying positions of power, of domination. This makes us indignant,” said Deltan. He was the last MP to leave the plenary session at around 9pm. “We are a country in which value is being reversed. We are a country of integrity,” he said. “And what we see is a big setback.”
Two PT supporters criticized Lava Jato in front of Deltan after the impeachment was confirmed: Pedro Uczai (SC) and Bohn Gass (RS). “Lavajatism has destroyed Brazil. How many companies have been destroyed?” asked Bohn Gass. To the StadiumDeltan retorted, “I naturally see them trying to attack Lava Jato because he is the eternal goat in the PT room, President Lula. Lava Jato has demonstrated the great corruption of PT.”
There was little time left for things in the last few minutes. The former deputy returned to the office with the rest of the team for the latest activity. They left the Chamber at 10.00 pm to have dinner together: the councilors had their suitcases.
