Mysterious death

While the summer temperatures earlier this month have us curling up and settling down on a beautiful sandy beach, Disney+ is taking us on a trip to a Caribbean island paradise in its new original series Saint X . An idyllic first for the Thomas family quickly turns into drama.

In the most charming setting on vacation, an American couple and their two daughters, Alison, 19, and Claire, 7, enjoy all the entertainment the hotel has to offer. He is young and naive, but he wants to learn and get away from his environment and parents. And he’s going to do just that this holiday season. “ explains West Duchovny, his interpreter, who is none other than the daughter of David Duchovny (The X-Files) and Thea Leon (Madame Secretary).

However, a week after their arrival, as they prepare to return to the United States, Alison’s lifeless body is found nearby. A tragic event that will forever disfigure his parents, but also and above all his little sister, who a few years later becomes interested in the circumstances of his death after crossing paths with an old acquaintance…

The series follows the perilous search for the truth of a young adult woman played by Alicia Debnam-Carey (Fear The Walking Dead, The 100) and flashes back to the days leading up to the drama. “It’s a psychological thriller that tells the main events from different times and perspectives, and it deals with many themes like race, class and trauma.”

complex characters

Saint X is an adaptation of the novel There is nowhere quite like that by Alexis Shaitkin, who also participated in the project as an executive producer. The original work clearly helped the actors prepare for their roles. West Duchovny was especially surprised when he only read the pilot script, learning more about Ellison’s character while reading it.

“As an actor, we always want as much information as possible about our character. When we have the whole novel and the scripts, it’s our bible, we go back to it and refer to it all the time. says Jayden Elia, who plays Edwin, one of the hotel’s employees. Edwin is quite unavailable in the book, but I survived as best I could and the script filled in the blanks. ”

An outgoing server and especially at ease with vacationers, Edwin quickly piques the curiosity of Alison, who tries to befriend the young man. “What I really admire about him is his determination. When he has an idea in his head, he realizes it, Jaden Elia adds. However, he does have a bit of a dark side, and the show explores where that takes him. “

For his part, West Duchovny appreciates the complexity of his character: “What I liked about it from the beginning is that it is very difficult to analyze and full of contradictions. It’s so human that you can easily relate to it.”

Idyllic environment

Set in the Dominican Republic, the series offers a dreamlike setting for this unfortunately tragic story. A special natural environment that facilitated the shooting, as Jayden Elia tells us. “When you live in the Caribbean like Edwin does, the sun and the sea next to it interacts with you, and that helped me a lot in this role. I felt really grateful and honored to be there for 6 months doing what I love.

This heavenly setting will unfortunately become the scene of heart-wrenching drama in Saint X. Mysterious and rich with twists and turns, the series tries to keep the viewer hooked until the final conclusion.

“What I love about this series is that it’s very honest about the topics it wants to discuss and doesn’t give final or definitive conclusions. These subjects are presented in all their complexity, sometimes uncomfortable, sometimes revealing. I hope that people watching will be ready to understand these things. “ West Duchovni tells us.

The two actors are surrounded by Alicia Debnam-Carey, Josh Bonzi, Bree Francis, Kenley Anaya Townsend, Betsy Brandt and Michael Park.
