It’s been a refreshing, fun, colorful series, and we’re saying goodbye this Thursday, June 8th. Netflix is releasing the final season of My First Times, which follows Dev, an Indian-American high school student who experiences the pain of adolescence while recovering from the death of his father. It is unconvincing to say that the young girl, played by the revelation Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, is going through an intense emotional storm right before our eyes.
Co-creators Mindy Kaling (who draws inspiration from her own life) and Lang Fisher originally planned for 4 seasons (if successful) to chronicle Davy’s high school and friends’ entire education. In three years, the heroine experiences many “firsts”: the first lover, the first alcoholic evening, the first kiss and more…
In Season 4, which consists of 10 episodes, Dev has only one ambition in mind: to be selected for Princeton. And the race to university will be fraught with pitfalls for our hero, who has his head elsewhere. Between her relationship with Ben (whom she ends up sleeping with), Paxton, who is never far away, and the arrival of a cute new kid in high school (played by the brilliant Michael Cimino), things don’t go as planned.
Expect laughs, a few tears, and a feel-good lesson with the end of My First Times, which will reveal the audiovisual landscape with a heroine of Indian origin (after Quantico and the other kind of Master of None). And enjoy John McEnroe as narrator for the last time in the original version!
