São Paulo coach Dorival Júnior said the CBF had never sought him out for a possible deal for the Brazilian national team. The statement was released at a press conference, after the Tricolore beat Sul-Americana’s Tolima, 5-0, at the Morumbi stadium. Despite this, the coach revealed that he was flattered by the mention of his name in the list of possible coaches to take over.
“They’ve linked to articles about it, so I felt compelled to convey the truth to the fans. I was happy to have remembered the name in a moment of defining a professional who should be in charge of the Selection. I didn’t suggest anything with the board because there was no demand,” Dorval said.
Dorival stressed that there were no CBF polls during his time in charge of Flamengo.
“I’ve never had contact with the director of the CBF. I’m just flattered that the name is remembered. Everything is fictitious and a possibility,” he said.
Possibility that can attract Dorival, if he receives the proposal. After all, he hasn’t ruled out leading the national team.
“Whatever happens, let it happen. I hope the president chooses the best name possible,” he said, stressing that he hoped a Brazilian would stay in the role.
“I’ve never prepared for a situation. Some say planning is key. I’ve never done that. I’ve always trusted that God would put me in the right moments. It’s always been like this, it won’t be different,” he said.

At the age of 61, completed on 25 April, Dorival arrived at the Tricolore just before the week before his birthday (20/4). He has a contract until the end of 2024.
