Judge accused of not paying wages as a maid in slavery wins R$ 37,500


Jorge Luiz de Borba, of the Court of Justice of Santa Catarina, received in 2022 accumulated grants of R$ 461 thousand, plus benefits; he claims he took in a deaf-mute waitress in an “act of love” 30 years ago

  • Jorge Luiz de Borba has been a judge for 15 years. Before entering the judiciary, he was a lawyer for almost 30 years and president of the subsection of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) in Blumenau.




    With the repercussions of the operation, he released a statement saying the woman was like a ‘family member’. The judge also said her goals were “humane”.

    “What is unfoundedly believed to be work similar to slavery, in fact expresses an act of love”, reads the press release.
