In 2019, director James Mangold begins shooting a film about the tumultuous friendship between dreamer Carol Shelby and British driver Ken Miles. The two were commissioned by Henry Ford II to build a new car that would dethrone Ferrari at the 1966 Le Mans race.

on the contrary a prioriThe feature film is not only for car and racing fans. Indeed, it is primarily an incredible human adventure based on a true story.

Thanks to the excellent editing (rightly awarded at the Oscars), Le Mans 66 does not suffer from dead time and maintains a frenetic rhythm that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats until the end of 2h30.

The film also owes a lot to its two main actors: Matt Damon, a man whose greatness of spirit is revealed throughout the story; and Christian Bale finding a director for Yuma a decade after the Western 3:10. If at first he seems to overdo the role of this big man, the character’s flaws slowly emerge to end up with a more nuanced portrayal.

Christian Bale, known for his investment in roles, trained alongside Robert Nagle, a stunt coordinator and experienced pilot, before filming. His performance earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor.

With an average rating of 4.3/5, Le Mans 66 is one of the Christian Bale films most appreciated by AlloCiné viewers (ex aequo along with Prestige and The Dark Knight).
