You just need an internet connected device to “create” the digital workbook. From 2019, the document replaces the physical version of the Tessera Lavoro e Previdenza (CTPS) and can be used to verify admission contracts or request concessions.
It is not necessary to go to a public body to issue the document, as was done in the past: any Brazilian citizen with CPF is already entitled to a Digital Work Card, linked to eSocial data. Therefore, upon hiring, you can inform the CPF so that the company proceeds with the registration.
Instead, it is very important to activate the Digital Workbook to keep track of all previous contracts and keep the information updated.
How to obtain the Digital Labor Charter
Registration on the Emprega Brasil platform takes place with the single login of Gov.br. If you don’t already have an account on this service, you need to do so create a record with CPF. If you don’t remember your credentials, you can recover password via computer or mobile phone.

- Login servicos.mte.gov.br;
- Click on “Enter with gov.br”;
- Press “Authorize”;
- Fill in your personal data;
- Answer a questionnaire about your professional career;
- On the Emprega Brasil panel, click on “Carteira de Trabalho Digital”;
- View the digital version of the document.
If you need a duplicate Job Card, you can select the “Print Card” button and download it.

- Download the Digital Work Card application (android | iOS);
- Go to “Sign in with Gov.br”;
- Login with CPF and password;
- Tap “Authorize”;
- Access CTPS data.

To access contract details and employee benefit options, you need to increase the security level of the Gov.br account. There are several methods to obtain the silver and gold seals of service, such as Internet Banking registration, facial recognition and CNH Digital data.
What happens to the physical Work Card?
The paper CTPS is no longer used for registrations, but the Ministry of Labor recommends keeping the physical document, especially in the case of older papers.
How to use CTPS Digital when hiring?
In this process, you only need to inform the CPF number. This information is sufficient for the employer to find your record in the eSocial database and proceed with the registration of the employment contract.
In which cases can I issue the physical Work Card?
The paper document can only be used by people employed by public or international bodies. In this case it is necessary to send an e-mail with the appointment to work.(uf)@economia.gov.brby replacing the space “(uf)” with the abbreviation of your state (work.sp@economia.gov.br for the state of São Paulo, for example).
The documents requested in the email are:
- FCP;
- Identification document with photo;
- Proof of residency with postcode;
- Proof of marital status (birth or marriage certificate);
- 3×4 photo.
What to do when the data is wrong?
When an inconsistency with an old record is found, there is no need to call any body. The Work Card system is constantly updated and changes incorrect information on the platform.
The Work Card holds important information, such as the PIS numberand can also be used to claim job benefits, such as unemployment insurance and PIS wage allowance.
