On December 1, 2020, on his official Instagram account, Elliot Page revealed his transition and his new name. The news is the beginning of an important chapter in the life and career of the actor, who already shook Hollywood in 2014 by coming out as gay.
This journey, characterized by many professional successes and positions, is described in his autobiography titled Pageboy – Released in France on June 7 by Kero editions. In his pages, the Canadian star, among other things, testifies to the attacks he has been subjected to throughout his career.
One of them happened on the set of David Slade’s thriller Hard Candy. In this disturbing film released in 2005, Elliott Page plays a young teenager who decides to target a man he met on the Internet, whom he accuses of being a pedophile.
The then 17-year-old actor says he was sexually assaulted by two members of the film’s production team. He later explains that he was accompanied in a car by one of the men from the team.
He writes: “With his soft voice, he put his hands on my shoulders and led me to the bedroom. I was paralyzed. Not sure what to do as he stood in front of me when he took off his glasses. He laid me on the bed. He began to remove his pants before saying, “I want to eat you.” I was no longer moving. As soon as he finished he tried to stay in bed with me. I slowly came to my senses and told him that it was impossible, he had to leave.”
in the columns of a British newspaper guardElliot Page adds:Aside from what this incident says about power and toxicity, it’s mostly about a young person living in a space surrounded by adults and in situations where people are…I don’t even have a word for it. I was going to say “enjoy” but it’s terrible. I’m almost at a loss for words because it’s hard to come to terms with the thought that someone might want to…“
In his interview, the actor struggles to find the right terms. He will return to the screen in 2024 for season 4 of Umbrella Academy on the Netflix platform, but aside from this series, Elliott Page has yet to sign a definitive return to cinema.
