The Spider-Verse short addresses the mental health of Miles Morales

Sony Pictures unveiled a recently released new short film this Monday (12th). Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Versefocused on the mental health of the main character, Miles Moral

the animation The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story (The Spider Inside Me: A Story of the Spider-Verse) premiered during the Annecy animated film festival.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the short shows Miles dealing with anxiety as he is overwhelmed by school, exams and relationship problems.

The character’s fears are manifested by a shadowy figure representing his alter-ego and an imaginary infestation of spiders in his room.

The film also portrays the relationship between father and son in moments that highlight Miles’ father, Jefferson Morales. The team behind The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story features Jarelle Dampier as director and Khaila Amazan as screenwriter.

Dampier said the short film’s plot was inspired by an anxiety attack he suffered when he was chosen to participate in Sony’s LENS (Leadership and Empowerment of New Storytellers) program.

The day I was offered this job to direct this film, I had the biggest panic attack I can remember in my life. I spent the night in the hospital. I was so excited and happy for the opportunity but my whole body shut down.

There is no information yet on when the The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story will be released commercially.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was released on June 1 and has grossed $225.5 million in the United States and $164.5 million internationally to date.
