The cinema’s most selfless chickens are back! “Chicken Run: The Rise of the Nugget” will be released later this year and the date was revealed by Netflix during a panel at the Annecy Animation Festival, France.
In addition to the release date, the streamer also showed about 12 minutes of the new film, revealing that the story takes place 12 years after the end of the first. In the sequel, the main plot figures Ginger and Rocky had a daughter named Molly. Further details:
“Chicken Run: The Rise of the Nugget” is a production of Aardman animations in partnership with Netflix. It is directed by Sam Fell, with a screenplay by Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell. According to Peter Lord, creative director of the studios, the film’s sequel “was often discussed at Aardman”. According to him, “the studio needed the right story and the right partner.”
Ginger and Rocky are voiced by Thandiwe Newton and Zachary Levi, while Molly is voiced by Bella Ramsey. In the cast there are also other names such as Jane Horrocks, Imelda Staunton, Lynn Ferguson, Josie Sedgwick-Davies, David Bradley, Romesh Ranganathan, Daniel Mays and Nick Mohammed.
