This mythic and traumatic sci-fi saga has a 9th movie release date!

“No one in space will hear you scream”chanted the teaser for Ridley Scott’s film Alien in 1979. After 45 years, the saga returns to its roots with a new feature film by Fede Alvarez (The Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe).

Titled Alien Romulus, this 9th chapter of the Xenomorph franchise is being shot in Hungary with a new cast: Kyle Spann (Easttown Mare), Isabella Merced (Dora and the Lost City), Archie Reno (Morbius, Shadow and Bone), Spike. Fearn (Batman, Aftersun), David Johnson (Industry) and Eileen Wu.

Fede Alvarez and his team will try to remove the license that expired with Prometheus and Covenant. Signed by Ridley Scott, these episodes disappointed the fans and the last opus did not achieve the expected commercial success.

New alien release date

After announcing the postponement of the Avatar sequel and several Marvel movies, Disney (owner of 20th Century Studios) has announced the release date for Alien Romulus. The feature film will be released in theaters on August 14, 2024!

In terms of story, this new opus will not be related to the previous films. A fan of the iconic franchise himself, Fede Alvarez pitched the idea to Ridley Scott a few years ago during a casual chat. This eventually led to the latter calling the director to see if he was still interested. Then everything accelerated.

Therefore, 20th Century Studios decided to produce the film on the strength of Alvarez’s speech, as the script states “A really good story with lots of characters you’ve never seen before”According to Steve Asbell, president of 20th Century Studios.

“In this 9th episode of the hugely popular film series, a group of young people from a distant world come face-to-face with the world’s most terrifying life form”, we read in the synopsis of upcoming fiction. A glowing xenomorph is about to pillage our little army!

Note that a series centered on the Alien license is also in the works under the direction of Noah Hawley (Legion). These two projects will not be related to the iconic character of Ellen Ripley, the heroine of the first 4 works of the franchise. In total, the 8 feature films of the Alien saga have brought in approximately $1.5 billion worldwide.

If the fangs and fangs of this mythical pop culture monster traumatized you, you might shudder because no one in the movie theater will hear you scream! Alien Romulus hits theaters on August 14, 2024.
