Botafogo’s audit committee has issued a disapproving opinion on the club’s accounts. According to members, there is a lack of transparency between the membership club and the SAF. John Textor, majority owner of the club’s shares, spoke on the matter for the first time.
In an interview with ‘GE’, Textor showed support for the president of the association club, Durcesio Mello, and criticized the club’s directors.
– And these faceless cowards want to create a third world war between the club and the SAF. They will kill things like that (Project of the new CT), he understands? We are friends of the association club and no one asked me to do this – criticized Textor
The American businessman also spoke about conditions for Olympic sports in Botafogo, which is run by the association club.
– I worry about Remo. I am buying new boats for the racing industry. These guys don’t give money, right? I am investing US$20,000 (R$96,200 at the current exchange rate) in rowboats so that Lucas [Verthein]who is an incredible rower, has a top boat and can win the Olympics.
Textor also alleged that advisors to the association club had leaked confidential information from the SAF contract. This breaks the confidentiality agreement between the parties.
– They broke the confidentiality agreement we have with the club by sending copies of the agreements to the press. Their motives must be questioned when they breach contracts. These people are faceless and nameless cowards.
The Tax Council is only an advisory body. The approval of the bills is only a recommendation. Club bills will still be voted on by club directors.
