The great Vince Gilligan, the man behind the critically acclaimed TV series Breaking Bad and its spin-off Better Call Saul, is back at work. It’s clear that the showrunner is taking an unexpected turn in his career as he enters the world of science fiction with his new series called Wycaro for Apple TV+.
Even more surprising is that the series has not aired – we do not know the date of its broadcast – we learn that the Apple platform has just ordered a second season from it.
Little information has filtered out about the series, the synopsis of which is still unknown. But we already know that Better Call Saul’s Kim Wexler and Rhea Zehorn will star. Vince Gilligan will serve as showrunner and executive producer.
Wycaro wanted other broadcasters despite its considerable budget, which is said to be around $13.5 to $15 million per episode! In the end, Apple TV+ won the auction against Prime Video and AMC, the historic broadcasters of Gilligan’s two previous series. During the official announcement of the project last September, the latter hinted at this change.
After fifteen years I thought it was time to take a break from writing anti-heroes… and who is more heroic than the brilliant Rhea Zehorn? It’s time for her to have her own show and I feel lucky to be able to work with her.
Vaikaro, formerly known as Satikov, moves from the world of drugs to pure science fiction. In a nod to The Twilight Zone, the story takes place in our world, twisting reality, focusing on characters, and exploring the human condition in unexpected and surprising ways.
More than just a moral fable, Wycaro is designed to provoke thought while avoiding a single moral narrative. With Vince Gilligan’s signature tone that seamlessly blends drama and humor, this series promises to be fresh and engaging viewing.
