Every decade of cinema has seen its share of horror films that, if not immediately, at least over time, became classics of the genre. In the 1970s, we can cite, for example, the Tobe Hooper film released in 1974, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, one of the first films to use a realistic tone close to a documentary. By the end of the decade, another genre film would mark an entire generation of viewers, but this one in space. It was Ridley Scott’s Alien, released in 1979, which was a real shock when it came out, again thanks to its atmosphere, but also the special effects and especially the xenomorph at the center of the film, which glows for a long time. Time was his absence before he finally revealed himself in all his horror.
The next decade is undoubtedly the decade of horror films, with the announcement of new directors such as John Carpenter (Rame, Christine, Prince of Darkness) or Clive Barker (Hellraiser), but above all the birth of many franchises that had several. Feature films as well as spin-offs and remakes until 2020.
