According to the US Navy, a Chinese satellite swerved into trajectory to see the Darkstar plane piloted by Tom Cruise in the movie “Top Gun: Maverick”, probably thinking it was a real device!
One can misunderstand the Chinese government: Darkstar’s design is indeed the work of the well-known company Skunk Works. The latter, a subsidiary of defense and security company Lockheed Martin, has been specializing in the design of revolutionary military aircraft for decades.
The plane, piloted by Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick, bore a strong resemblance to the upcoming SR-72, whose Chinese companion undoubtedly believed it could shoot. This SR-72, a supersonic military surveillance, reconnaissance and reconnaissance vehicle, is currently being developed at Lockheed Martin.
“Joseph Kosinski, director of Top Gun: Maverick, worked with Skunk Works and Lockheed to design Darkstar.
