Verdão, who had already captured the title in 2022, beat the Hurricane 3-1 to become a four-time champion of the grassroots competition
Palmeiras continues to win professionally and on grassroots level. This Sunday (18th), Verdão beat Athletico-PR, 4-1, in the final of the under-17 Copa do Brasil and became champions of the tournament in which they had already defended the title won in 2022. With goals from Luighi , Estevão , Érick Belé and one against, Alviverde added another result for the Crias da Academia gallery.
Also in the first half, Luighi risked a shot from distance, which didn’t seem very dangerous, but goalkeeper Maksym ended up accepting it for a corner and Palmeiras opened the scoring. From then on, Verdão dominated the game even more, but despite the volume of chances created, they didn’t turn into more goals, going into half-time just 1-0 up.
Upon returning from the locker room, Athletico-PR seemed more connected and willing to draw the duel soon. And that’s exactly what happened. Smile launches himself into attack and takes advantage of a bad exit from goalkeeper César to play on goal. 1 to 1 in the draw, but Hurricane didn’t insist on turning around and allowed Alviverde to get back into the game.
Shortly after, Luighi tried another shot on goal, which ended up deflecting onto two Atletico-PR players, protagonists of an own goal that made it 2-1, which did justice to the best performance on the pitch. It didn’t take long and the great protagonist of the match, the young Estevão, received him at the entrance to the area and hit hard, with no chance for the hurricane goalkeeper. Finally, in stoppage time, Érick Belé capitalized on a cross from the right to complete a 4-1 victory.
From there, Palmeiras managed the result at the Arena Barueri to secure their fourth under-17 Copa do Brasil title (2017, 2019, 2022 and 2023), the second in a row, as in 2022 Verdão was the champion beating the Vasco in the final. It is worth mentioning that in 2023 the Alviverde base had already won the Cup. In 2022 the Crias da Academia conquered almost everything that was contested, losing only against Paulista under 20.
That year’s victorious campaign was undefeated. The team led by Rafael Paiva played eight games for the tournament, with seven wins and one draw, for a total of 44 goals scored and only three conceded. The Palestinian team’s top scorer was Luighi, with nine goals. The athlete also became the player to score the most goals in an under-17 edition of the Copa do Brasil for Palmeiras, leaving behind forwards João Pedro (2019) and Endrick (2022).
