Is the Walking Dead series related to other horror franchise spin-offs?

Barely six months after The Walking Dead finale aired, the horror franchise made its grand return this Monday, June 19 with the first episode of The Walking Dead: Dead City.

This spin-off, set in New York, puts Maggie on the trail of her son Hershel, who has been kidnapped by Negan’s ex-employee. Despite their mutual hatred, the two enemies must join forces for this high-risk mission!

As we know, the Walking Dead franchise is not ready to stop, as several spin-offs have already been ordered. Dead City creator Eli Jorne also confirmed in an exclusive interview that this expanded universe will be overseen by screenwriter Scott M. Gimple, whose features are reminiscent of Kevin Feige’s in the MCU:

It’s Scott Gimple who provides consistency between all of these series. Therefore, my collaboration with him essentially consisted of an exchange of ideas and narrative proposals. But every now and then he cuts me off and says, “You can’t do that because the same thing is already happening in episode 3 of Daryl.”

Dead City is already on the air, Daryl Dixon has already directed it, and the mini-series Ricky and Michonne is currently in production… The near-simultaneous production of these three spin-offs could indicate crossovers between the three series.

But for now, the priority seems to be on independently written and filmed content, although the possibility of a crossover isn’t entirely out of the question. Of course, we’ll need to give these programs time to exist on their own before we consider convergence between the three series, as confirmed by our Mic Eli Jorne:

As you know, the Daryl series takes place in France, Dead City takes place in New York, and the Rick and Michonne mini-series takes place in a third location… (…) As a screenwriter, it’s really satisfying. To have my own playground. I can tell the story that comes to mind without any restrictions, but it would still be nice if Dead City crosses paths with another spin-off series.

Although Dead City began airing this week, we’ll have to wait until we find out about the other Walking Dead spin-offs, as Daryl Dixon won’t air until next fall, and a mini-Rick and Michonne series is just around the corner. for next year.

Episodes of The Walking Dead: Dead City series can be seen every Monday exclusively on OCS Choc and on demand on the OCS platform.
