Many years before Disney fans watched the studio’s movies in the comfort of their homes, via streaming, the company was already thinking about home entertainment releases.
Between 1994 and 2015, the company released several direct-to-physical animations, usually sequels to its biggest franchises. Even if they have not been so successful, the works have enchanted the audience from the sofa at home. “Mulan 2” it was one of them.
“Mulan 2”
Yes, “Mulan 2” exists! The film was released in 2005 and is a direct continuation of the 1998 hit. Despite the very conclusive ending of “Mulan” (the heroine saves China from the Huns and gets engaged to Li Shang), Disney decided to continue the story of the warrior.
In the film, after China’s victory, the country still needs protection, this time against the Mongols. Mulan then escorts the emperor’s daughters to a neighboring kingdom to forge an alliance and prevent battle, but finds herself in a new adventure.
The production also shows the protagonist’s relationship with Shang: they were excellent battle partners, but what about marriage?
Proposing new stories, always in line with the purpose of the warrior saga, the film seems to be a natural continuation of the first, but with an even lighter and more familiar tone.
Return of the cast
Soundtrack of “Mulan 2”.
Some of the Disney movies have become so memorable because of their soundtrack and ‘Mulan’ was no different.
This time, even with a smaller budget, “Mulan 2” offers catchy songs on similar themes as the first film: female empowerment, family, encouragement for girl warriors, social roles and responsibilities, and duty.

Continuation
The sequel may not be as much of a work of art as the first, but it certainly marked Disney’s efforts to deliver quality content to its viewers in the comfort of their homes, even before streaming became popular.
In recent years, another adaptation of “Mulan” has also been released: the film of the same name premiered directly on digital platforms in 2020 (since it arrived in the midst of the pandemic) and reinvents the character’s adventures in a live action version.
