Black Mirror on Netflix: Season 6 Episode 3 tells us something we all experience, but you may not realize it!

It took four years to discover new episodes of Black Mirror, but they’re here! Season 6 of the Charlie Brooker anthology series is available on Netflix and features five episodes with very different themes.

The third episode, called “My Heart for Life” (“Beyond the Sea”, original version) is the longest (80 minutes!), but above all it is the one that may have won the hearts of fans the most. and surprised the subscribers.

It stays close to the themes that make Black Mirror salty by criticizing new technology, but also offers intrigue that takes the audience to an alternate past with a very modern subtext. And above all, “My Heart for Life” ends with a mind-blowing twist and a shocking ending.

“My Heart for Life” is set in an alternate version of 1969, where the technology is very advanced for the time. Two astronauts, Cliff (Aaron Paul) and David (Josh Hartnett), are tasked with a dangerous high-tech mission in space.

In order for them to continue their normal lives when they are not on a space mission, a robotic double was created and it is these android clones who live on Earth with their families while their real bodies rest in space for their mission. which should last for six years.

Their consciousness can be transferred from their real bodies when they have to work in space in their robot double to live with their loved ones when they are not in action. But this delicate balance is disrupted when David’s family is attacked and killed by a cult of hippie fanatics, whose leader believes that David’s robot is unnatural.

Before surrendering to the police, the killers burn a replica of David, which keeps the real David in space and prevents him from returning to Earth four years after his mission ends. Cliff tries to help him, but David falls into a deep depression when he is trapped alone in the space shuttle.

His wife Lana (Kate Mara) suggests that Cliff take on the role of David by making several visits to Earth so that he can find a taste for life again. Except that David, in Cliff’s body, not only revives, but also becomes dangerously close to Lana and even develops an obsession with her, which he depicts in his paintings.

When Cliff finds out, he forbids David from going back on his line. David then devises a plan to trap Cliff in space while he returns to Earth to kill Lana and Henry, Cliff’s son. Completely bruised, Cliff has no choice but to stay in the shuttle with David to complete the mission, as David could kill his real body in his absence.

In addition to the specific historical inspiration for the story of “My Heart for Life”, such as 1969, when man took the first step on the moon or Charles Manson as the leader of the hippie cult, Charlie Brooker was primarily inspired by a much more modern event to write this episode: the lockdown.

“He wrote it during the lockdown as a reaction to the lockdown. He felt isolated and – he probably won’t say it – but I think he had a bit of FOMO syndrome, looking at other people’s lives around the world.

And he thought that you are comparing your situation with someone else’s situation. That’s what people get when they’re isolated on social media, and I think it was a reaction to the paradoxical feeling of isolation and being on social media. .”

Although the action takes place in 1969, Kate Mara discovers this episode “Very relevant and universal” Although it is based on the recent traumatic experience of the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdowns:

“The theme of human connection is as relevant in the 60s as it is today. It’s important for all of us to survive and love. Not just in a romantic relationship, but to feel love and experience love. That’s what I found. Very fascinating, but also to watch that These two men feel isolated, and so does my character, Lana, feel isolated in her own home.”

The episode “My Heart for Life” takes a very tragic and devastating turn for the characters, and all hope for happiness disappears in the end. Despite being inspired by imprisonment, Josh Hartnett explains that the 1969 selection was carefully considered by Charlie Brooker:

“Hope and optimism were destroyed by Manson’s murder. Because at that time the space program was the great hope of the American people and the hope of humanity. Going into space meant something, like we were all going to colonize the moon or live in the future of Jason.”

The 1960s put an end to optimism, hope. The whole experiment ended with Manson’s murders. It was the end. And I think that this great experiment ended so long ago that Charlie wanted to go back to that time to figure out why, and of course to bring up this theme of isolation.”
