Some films have been able to highlight guitarists at the center of their storylines, whether through biopics that tell the lives of famous musicians or fictional stories.
For example, in 2005, it was director James Mangold who staged the life of country singer-guitarist Johnny Cash and his partner June Carter in Walk the Line, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon as his wife.
The film that showed us the meteoric rise of this American star, which almost managed to rival Elvis Presley’s aura at times, ignored the star’s addictions, such as alcohol or drugs. Remember Reese Witherspoon’s Oscar for Best Actress, as well as Joaquin Phoenix’s nomination (who will receive it fifteen years later for Joker).
In the fictional register, it was Clint Eastwood who introduced the moving story of another country singer-guitarist in 1982’s Honkytonk Man: Red Stovall. A musician who feels his career is failing him travels across the United States to auditions in Nashville, Tennessee.
He is accompanied on this journey by his nephew Whit (played by his son Kyle Eastwood, who was thirteen years old at the time) and grandfather, on the way he meets Marlene, a young artist who also wants to pursue a career in singing. Unfortunately, the recording project seems to be in jeopardy when Red finds out he has tuberculosis.
For this new quiz, we’re going to give you guitar scenes in movies. So compare your answers and try to identify these nine movies!
