With the widespread use of generative AI, the technology is threatening the future of Hollywood. The writers’ strike is already clashing with artificial intelligence so that professionals are not replaced (or even exploited) and some actors fear for their image. Voice actors and voice actors have joined this cause: voice actors fear that artificial intelligence is being used to create synthetic voices, taking their place in the film industry.
Generative AI and Hollywood
Voice actors and announcers
According to Mario Filio, voice actor in charge of King Julien of Madagascarthe pros are “fighting a very large monster”.
It was he who coined the “I move a lot” refrain in the Spanish version of the film, which became a memorable plot moment. However, long before the AI came into play, he revealed that he received no royalties for playing the song.
With artificial intelligence, Filio fears something beyond pay: his job. Movie studios haven’t stopped hiring these professionals, but industry insiders suspect they’re feeding databases to power generative AI at a later date.
Consent

Don’t steal our voices
Against the use of generative AI in the industry, around 20 associations and trade unions from Europe, the USA and Latin America have united in the United Voices Organization (OVU), under the motto “Don’t steal our voices”. The organization wants to find a way to harmonize the use of artificial intelligence with human work.
According to them, the “indiscriminate and unregulated” use of AI can extinguish an “artistic heritage of creativity […] that machines cannot create”.
They still support creating laws that prevent studios from using their voice to train AI without their consent and creating “human labor quotas,” according to Colombian broadcaster Daniel Söler de la Prada, who led the OVU lobby at the United Nations and the World Intellectual Property Organization.
Opposition to artificial intelligence in Hollywood?
The voice actors aren’t denying the use of AI, as the trend seems imminent.
However, Filio demands fair compensation for his work. Other industry professionals are also demanding that their vessels be protected from unregulated generative AI.
