Frederic Forrest, the nervous “leader” of Apocalypse Now who was nominated for an Oscar that year for “The Rose,” died Friday in Santa Monica. He was 86 years old. As Variety reports, his death was confirmed by his sister, Ginger Jackson, and for the first time by his co-star. ᲕardBette Midler, who paid tribute to the comedian on Twitter.
“The great and beloved Frederick Forrest has died“, he wrote. “Thanks to all his fans and friends for their support over the past few months. He was an outstanding actor and a brilliant person and I was lucky to have him in my life. He was calm.“
In Apocalypse Now (1979) by Francis Ford Coppola, Frederick Forrest Played Jay “Chef” Hicks, an injured former New Orleans chef aboard a river patrol boat who angrily yells that he’s only here to “eat.” That same year, he earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor, Musical Romantic Drama. Born on December 23, 1936, in Waxahachie, Texas, he earned a degree in radio and television from Texas Christian University, from which he later received the Distinguished Alumni Award, before moving to New York, where he studied with Sanford Meissner and Lee Strasberg. During the tumultuous 1960s, she appeared in a number of off-Broadway productions, including Viet Rock and Futz!. He then moved to Hollywood and his first screen role in Legends Die in 1972 earned him a Golden Globe nomination the following year as Most Promising Newcomer.

In Joel Schumacher’s 1993 Free Fall starring Michael Douglas, Robert Duvall and Barbara Hershey, he played a white supremacist army surplus store owner who is killed by Douglas’ character.
