How to insert GIF into PowerPoint

GIF files are inserted as images in Microsoft Office applications. To insert GIF into PowerPoint, whether on Windows, macOS or the web version, just insert the file from your computer.

  1. Select the slide where you want to place the GIF;
  2. click inside Insert > Pictures;
  3. Select “Image from file”;
  4. Confirm with “Enter”.

You can also use the online search option with Insert > Pictures > Online Pictures and do a search for animated GIFs within the app itself.

To play the GIF, click “Slide Show” in the menu and select “Current Slide.” The GIF doesn’t play in the slideshow from the web version of the app.

How to check the number of GIF plays

GIF files usually play the animation in an infinite loop. But you can set a limited amount of repetitions for your PowerPoint presentations.

For this, use the online editor Ezgif.

  1. Login ezgif.com/split;
  2. Select “Choose File” or paste the URL of the GIF;
  3. Click “Upload”;
  4. Below the uploaded GIF, click “Split into frames”;
  5. After detailing the GIF, click “Edit Animation”;
  6. In “Loop count”, determine the number of plays;
  7. Click “Create a GIF”;
  8. Select “Save” to download.
