This is a success that we did not expect and which, nevertheless, seems well deserved. Despite the scare caused by the announcement of the project, The Walking Dead: Dead City, the sequel to the horror series with Maggie and Negan, made its big television debut on Sunday, May 18, on the AMC+ platform in the US.
Connecting two characters who hate each other in the continuation of a series whose recent seasons did not captivate fans did not seem like the best idea. But the first episode of Dead City managed to get almost everyone on board thanks to the quality of the writing and the convincing performances of its two leads.
As a result of positive word of mouth, the first episode of the series also premiered in the US on AMC+, breaking an all-time record for the platform (source: The Hollywood Reporter).
The Dead City pilot actually became the franchise’s most-watched episode of the week on the US streaming service with 683,000 views, breaking the record previously held by a Walking Dead anthology episode (572,000 views).
However, it should be remembered that this audience record is not equal to that achieved by the most watched episode of The Walking Dead on American television, cable channel AMC. This is an episode No sanctuary (Season 5, Episode 1), was watched by 17.29 million viewers when it aired on October 12, 2014!
Episodes of The Walking Dead: Dead City series are available every Monday in France on OCS Choc and on demand on the OCS platform.
