This is one of the first series to suffer the consequences of the writers’ strike. NBC recently announced the cancellation of Magnum PI, the reboot of the popular Tom Selleck-hosted series, at the end of its 5th season.
The decision not to order a sixth season has been made because it has been more than 50 days since the American screenwriters went on strike and it seems that no solution to their grievances has yet been found.
With Magnum’s cast contracts expiring on June 30, NBC was faced with several options. Either he ordered an additional season without knowing when the series was going to be produced, or he extended the contracts of the actors to wait for the strike to end, or he decided to end the series. So this is the last option that NBC chose.
Magnum PI isn’t going to leave the TV screen any time soon. Season 5 of the detective series with Jay Hernandez is actually divided into two parts, each consisting of 10 episodes.
The first episode aired on NBC from February 19 to April 23. The second one should be offered in the 2023/2024 season. But with the writers’ strike, the channel might move the air date, with the episodes already shot.
In May 2022, Magnum PI was already canceled by CBS after 4 seasons. A few months after this announcement, NBC decided to save the detective series and offered it 20 additional episodes. But this new cancellation will eventually be seen unless a streaming platform decides to pick it up.
Perdita Weeks, who camped next to Magnum, responded to the news on her Instagram by posting a face-to-face photo of Jay Hernandez and Sunset. “After one hell of an encore, it’s time for us and the Magnum PI team to ride off into the sunset.”

“Thank you so much for your support and a big thank you to all the cast and crew for half a decade of fun“, he wrote before finishing:Mahalo nui loa ❤️” (which can be translated into French as “thank you very much”)
It turns out that the Magnum PI season 5 finale, which was not intended to be the last chapter of the series, will provide a satisfying ending for fans who have followed the series for more than 5 years. Magnum PI season 4 in France is still unreleased on TF1.
