James Mangold ended the cycle of Harrison Ford and Hugh Jackman in Indiana Jones and the Relic of Destiny and Logan, respectively
Responsible for closing highly successful franchises, James Mangold commanded Logan (2017), last film of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine after nearly 20 years on paper, and Indiana Jones and the Relic of Destinywhich marks the farewell of Harrison Ford as the iconic archaeologist.
During an interview with Omelet, the filmmaker commented on the “similarities” between the two projects, which close important cinema cycles. “Whenever I work within franchises, I try to make sure I’m not just doing the middle chapter of a series. I’m kind of old-fashioned, because I like to do stories with a beginning, middle and end,” he said.
All the ways the stories I tell connect to the past are wonderful, but I try to make sure they make sense on their own.
“In Loganwas dealing with a character who had spent most of his life being tortured, living in a world where his choices were limited to being a weapon or hiding from society,” continued the filmmaker.
So, for him, death seems like a salvation. The way we tried to develop it, the last 30 seconds of his life were probably the best 30 seconds of his life.
Second James Mangoldthe dynamics of the Indiana Jones 5 is very different from what we see in Logan: “It’s very different. Taking the cue from the performance of Harrisontheir humor and charm, these films are lighter adventures, inspired by the golden age of hollywood.”
