The code generated by Google will be displayed on the digital machine. Consumers will be able to choose between payment in cash and in installments.
Directly from Sao Paulo – The Google announced on Tuesday (27) that the Google Wallet tool will allow payments through QR Codes. In this way it will no longer be necessary to use the NFC approach technology, which is very widespread, but not yet present in all smartphones with the Android system.
The company reported that the new feature will reach users “in the coming months,” without specifying a date. The virtual wallet has existed since July 2022 in the country.
The tech giant made the announcement at the event Google for Brazil, which brings together customers and journalists in São Paulo. He cited data from the IDC consultancy firm that 60% of smartphones Android sold in the country in the past three years do not have the tool.
In a statement released to the press, Natacha Litvinov, Google’s payment strategy and operations leader for Latin America, said that “a significant portion of the population” ends up being excluded from digital payments because of it.

code on the machine
The company explained that it will be enough to point the mobile phone camera – with the Google Wallet app – on the QR Code displayed on the display small car. The payment system applies to both credit and debit cards. Authentication will be by password or biometric data, depending on the card issuer’s requirements.
Google estimates that QR code payment will be offered in a variety of establishments, such as retail stores, kiosks and restaurants. Payment can be made in cash or in installments.

Competition with other wallets and Pix
Other payment systems already offer payment via QR Code. Usually the mechanics are the same: the machine informs a code that must be read in the fintech application or digital bank.
It should also be remembered that the pix fell into the taste of the Brazilian. The fast and free transfer (for individuals) also works via QR Code, in addition to Pix keys. However, the charge takes place immediately, contrary to what Google presents.
