HBO decided to end time in a production that did not please fans and prematurely end the controversial series The idolwith The Weeknd and Sam Levinson.
According to information from TVLine, the series The idol – which was initially announced as a six-episode production – will wrap ahead of schedule.
HBO has announced that next Sunday’s episode will mark the end of the Levinson-Tesfaye series, one week earlier than originally scheduled.
Seimetz’s scathing portrayal of the direction the series was taking under the creative control of Tesfaye and Levinson prompted calls for a boycott even before its release. With Levinson at the helm, The idol has had a sad audience since its debut.
Last Sunday’s episode, which would be the fourth of a total of six, drew just 133,000 viewers.
TVLine reports that an HBO rep declined to comment, but that a source said “the season ultimately ended up being five episodes after Sam [Levinson] assume and make significant changes. The story ended up needing five,” the source said.
With each episode, viewers say they are more and more horrified by the content of the series, which includes several shocking and disturbing scenes.
The latest episode of The idol premiering this Sunday, July 2 on HBO.
