Unbelievably, Taxi 2 refers to the famous film saga: Star Wars! You read that right, during the cutscene we get a brief glimpse of the device that Daniel (Samy Nasser) used during one of the film’s key sequences.
In the second adventure, Daniel meets the father of his girlfriend Lily. The latter is a high-ranking general in the French army, and the understanding between the two men is cordial. When the general is called to the airport in a disaster to meet the Japanese defense minister, he apparently calls on Daniel and his taxi services to arrive on time. But very quickly, conspirators try to kidnap the minister.
In the movie, if you pause at exactly 19 minutes and 12 seconds, you can see the joystick that Daniel uses to control the taxi when it’s airborne in the airport scene. In fact, this joystick is an almost identical copy of the one used by young Anakin in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace:
Taxi 2 / The Phantom Menace
While Taxi 2 was released on March 29, 2000, The Phantom Menace was released barely six months earlier on October 13, 1999. Deliberately, because it is hard to see that such a coincidence is the result of chance!

After the first part’s 6.5 million admissions, Taxi 2 almost doubled the stakes with 10.3 million tickets sold for the new adventure of taxi driver Daniel and Emilien the policeman. Two other sequels will see the light of day with the same team behind the scenes, namely Gerard Krawczyk to direct and Luc Besson to stage and produce.
