The end of Marvel: Secret Invasion episode 2 reveals Nick Fury’s best kept secret

A surprise at the end of each episode? That seems to be the credo of Secret Invasion, Marvel’s new series that airs June 21 on Disney+. But this time, none of the deaths upset fans. Not even a resurrection that would upset viewers who appreciated this unexpected and bold choice.

No, the end of Episode 2 reveals what has so far been the best-kept secret of Nick Fury’s personal life (barring rumors and certain statements that leave no doubt): the former SHIELD director is married. . With a Skrull that can change appearance as his own. And this surprised more than one.

After the silliness has passed, many viewers are left with the question: Does Nick Fury know his wife is a Skrull? True, he changes between the time we see him, alone, and the time Samuel L. Jackson’s character returns.

If the irony suggested by the netizen makes sense, it would be surprising if Marvel dropped this card so soon. That’s why. In a paranoid story where everyone (including the audience) has to wonder who they can trust, a reveal of this magnitude should come later, once we’ve had time to get to know and appreciate this new character.

And everything seems to set the stage for a meeting between Nick Fury and his wife (who is) with the episode’s opening flashback, which takes us back to the heart of the ’90s, shortly after the events of Captain Marvel. (This Skrull he’s talking to about Gravik, the story’s upcoming villain?)

From UNBREAKABLE to MARVEL

During the dialogue in Captain America – The Winter Soldier, where her husband claimed that his wife dumped him, Nick Fury’s wife finally appeared in the MCU. And if there are still some mysteries surrounding him, the identity of his interpreter is not one, because it is Charlaine Woodard.

Interpreter of Will Smith’s aunt in The Prince of Bel-Air, she distinguished herself in various series (Chicago Hope, Emergency, Posture, Analysis…) and also in two superhero films: Unbreakable and Glass, where she played the mother. Elijah Price, the villain of the story, played by… Samuel L. Jackson performs. Her future husband at Marvel.

It’s a fun coincidence, because this revelation supports one of the strengths of this beginning of the series: caring about Nick Fury’s character and his humanity. And who knows what the Secret Invasion sequel has in store for us with this character? As long as it doesn’t exist in the comics, anything is possible.
