The spy app says it has been hacked and user data is at risk

Thousands of users have been affected; most of the victims live in the United States, India and West Africa

OR Let me Spyapplication Android with thousands of customers allowing users spy on other smartphoneshas been compromised and the user’s confidential data has been stolen, as confirmed by the application manufacturer.

In an announcement posted on the official website, LetMeSpy claims that it was a “security incident”, which occurred in late June 2023, in which an unauthorized third party gained access to the data of “site users”.

“As a result of the attack, the criminals gained access to email addresses, phone numbers and message content collected in accounts,” the statement added.

After reviewing the sample data, US newspaper TechCrunch said at least 13,000 devices had collected data, which includes “years of victim call logs and text messages”, since 2013.

In addition, over 13,000 location data points have been stolen from thousands of victims. These data suggest that most of the victims live in the United States, India and West Africa.

According to the report, the app’s main database was also hacked. The bank contains the data of around 26,000 customers who have used the app for free, as well as the email addresses of those who have paid for the subscription.

LetMeSpy has instability on the site after the hack

The researchers who first discovered the breach — a Polish security research blog called Niebezpiecznik — reached out to the app’s creator for comment and got a response from the attackers.

Apparently, they have taken over the app creator’s domain. In fact, the app’s website has a counter for the number of users, text messages, call logs, and tracked locations, and they all now show zeros.

Earlier this year, the site said it monitored more than 236,000 devices, TechCrunch reported.

The hacker allegedly told researchers that he wiped LetMeSpy’s databases from servers, before leaking them online.

LetMeSpy has confirmed that the breach has been reported to the local law enforcement and data protection authority.
